Varsity Boys play to 0-0 Draw with neighboring Hewlett, earn point in conference A West

19 Sep 2023 by Coach Berlin

The Varsity Boys hosted the Hewlett Bulldogs at Greis Park today in a battle of neighboring schools who have a history of playing each other over the past few years. With Hewlett looking for their first conference win (0-2-0), the Owls knew they would need to play a strong, physical and smart game to come out on top. Looking to even their record at 2-2-0, Lynbrook started with much of the possession but struggled to generate much in the offensive end as the build from the middle seemed to stall 20-25 yards from the opposing net.

Much of the game was played in the middle third of the field by both teams with the occasional rush towards goal. Both goal keepers were steady in the first half as Lynbrook’s Jake Prince and Hewlett’s Matthew Fridburg both faced little in terms of shots.

The second half had much of the same as neither team succeeded at taking control of the play. Prince ended the game with 4 saves and Fridburg with 2 as the teams played to a 0-0 draw in their first meeting of the season. The two teams will meet again in October under the lights at Hewlett High School.

The Owls have no time to dwell on the lack luster effort and result as they have to ready themselves for their next league match. Thursday they travel to Mineola to play the Mustangs under the lights at Hampton Stadium under the lights. Game time 6:15PM.
