Varsity Owls play to a scoreless draw against defending State Champs Floral Park.

The Varsity Boys soccer team backed up a spirited effort against Mineola on Saturday with a scoreless draw against Floral Park Memorial in the first of two meetings this season. Fresh off of a state championship last season, Floral Park came into the match with a perfect 3-0 league record and scoring at least 3 goals in each of their first 3 league contests. The Owls in contrast have surrendered just 2 goals in their first 3 games in league action. The teams are very familiar with each other as they have been in the same conference for multiple years in a row.

The game was definitely a tactical chess match as each team worked to gain some sort of advantage over the course of the game. The game was not the typical physical occasion as only 3 total fouls were called in the first half of play. Floral Park had the better of the chances in the first frame but the Lynbrook defense stood tall and did not break. Goal keeper Jake Prince (7 saves) was dialed in as his decision making proved to be spot on. The scoreless first half gave the visiting Lynbrook side confidence as they felt the confidence growing as the game progressed.

The second half so much of the same with both teams trying to use a quick transition game to get behind the opposing defense. The Owls generated a few chances down at the goal as did the Knights but neither team was able to either capitalize of cash in on those chances. The game ended in a 0-0 draw and both goal keepers recorded clean sheets. Prince now has 3 shutouts on the season.

The Owls now look to take that very confidence into Thursdays match against Valley Stream North HS who has tallied 7 goals for and 14 goals against in 4 league games. Gametime is 5:30PM at North Middle School. Come out and bring the noise from the sideline!!!
